"If you need someone who will work with absolute flexibility and transparency, in a very personable way, Vu are for you. They're especially good at working alongside those who aren't necessarily marketing people and who don't necessarily speak that language."

Lucy Woodier, Brand and Content Manager, RCI Group

When a new strategy needs a digital presence to match

RCI Group brings together ten businesses that improve people’s lives across Health, Care, Justice and Insight.

When new leadership arrived with a strategy to raise the group’s external profile, the first thing they needed was a website that matched the ambition.

Lucy Woodier, Brand and Content Manager for the group, had already seen what Vu Digital could do. She’d watched the transformation of Venture People, one of the group’s businesses, from an outdated site to something that genuinely reflected the organisational values.

She diligently ran a procurement process. Two other agencies were approached, one dropped out, and the other offered a more rigid deliverable with little flexibility.

“One agency just said, this is what you’ll get for that amount of money. They weren’t as transparent or open. I knew the environment I was working in, and that flexibility was what really sold you to me.”

Vu Digital was then appointed not just for the RCI Group site, but for two more of the group’s businesses: Marcus & Marcus, a learning disability and autism care provider rated Outstanding by CQC, and Prometheus, a specialist mental health transport and observation service.

Three projects, running simultaneously, managed through one incredible marketing professional.

“It was ridiculous to think that could all happen at the same time. But we got there.”

What We Did

  • Website design and brand development for RCI Group
  • Website & brand redesign for Marcus & Marcus
  • Website redesign for Prometheus Healthcare
  • SEO Auditing & Photography direction across all three projects
  • Video editing to repurpose footage across multiple pages
  • Simultaneous project management across three builds with crossover timelines

Flexibility without ego

The three projects each came with different challenges. The RCI Group site was a close collaboration between Lucy and the Vu team, with clear shared ownership.

Marcus & Marcus, having personnel crossover with Venture People, understood the process and embraced a new logo along the way.

Prometheus was different. They hadn’t worked with Vu before, everything had gone through Lucy, and they were earlier in their journey around brand and external profile.

Vu proposed a logo change for Prometheus. It was knocked back. The team came back with something else. Eventually, the original direction was revisited and adopted. No ego. No pressure. Just patience and the understanding that some teams need to feel in control of the process before they can move forward.

“Your flexibility in suggesting something, having it knocked back, coming back to something else, and then us deciding to go with what you’d put together in the first place. That no ego approach was really helpful.”

The main challenges with websites on a deadline is the requirement for content creation.  All three projects benefited from Vu’s new wireframing and content creation tool, Contenze that produce a working website full of content for our clients to refine.

“As long as you don’t pretend that’s the final solution and that you’ve written every word, then we can have a solid starting point for revising,” explains Vu Director Dominic Cooper.

Weekly check-ins, transparent budget tracking, and honest conversations about what was and wasn’t possible within scope kept all three projects moving.

Lucy describes the transparency around cost and timelines as one of the most appreciated parts of the relationship.

“You knew how much we had to spend and how many days things were going to take. You were just very transparent about yes, we can do that, or no, we can’t do that other thing within the timescales or budget.”

The Solution

Three websites across a healthcare group, giving RCI, Marcus & Marcus, and Prometheus a digital presence that reflects their ambition and signals positive change across the organisation.

The RCI Group site launched as more than a new website. Within the organisation, it became a symbol of the broader strategic shift towards openness, visibility, and positive change.

From launch Lucy has reported excellent feedback from internal stakeholders including the Senior Leadership team.

“Websites and marketing have been getting a lot of attention internally because they are feel good projects. These new websites have boosted morale as much as they’ve helped us find new prospects.”

The momentum from the RCI project was immediate. Other businesses within the group started asking for their own refresh. People were already talking about what comes next, which features to add, which ideas to explore. That energy, Lucy says, is the real result.

“I’ve been on projects before where you’ve launched something and everyone’s just like, okay, cool, and gets on with their day job. But people are really engaged. They’re like, maybe we could try this thing next. And I think that’s exactly where we wanted to be.”
